Definition:
With the economic downturn of the past couple of years, more small business have been
forced to reduce staff, while still be expected to increase their level of expertise in competing
for new work. As a result, more small businesses are turning to Collaboration with Partner
Firms. Specific to Revit models, when small businesses work together on a project, the issue of
Revit Model Sharing comes in to play. Traditional workflows including FTP sites and Portals
simply don’t allow the two (or more) firms to work on the Revit model at the same time, as if
everyone is in one office.
Solution:
CSG’s Revit Model Hosting Service utilized Riverbed’s Steelhead technology to allow your model
to reside on our server, yet give each user the “all in one room” feel when accessing your LIVE
model. Through a combination of a Steelhead Appliance (our side) and Steelhead Mobile (your
side), we can create the environment to allow your project team to work together on a single
Revit model, and share project information.
How it works:
CSG and our Strategic Affiliate, I.T. Right, will set up your users with a Virtual Private Network
(VPN) connection to your project folder on our server. No one else will have access to your
folder. We also provide you with a Steelhead Mobile client application to install on your
workstation, which optimizes any traffic over the VPN connection. A drive letter is mapped on
your system and you simply access your Revit model from this new drive letter. When your
project is done, we delete the drive mapping and VPN connection and uninstall the Steelhead
Mobile software.
What it costs:
Each firm can have up to 3 team members, each getting a VPN connection and a Steelhead
Mobile client license.
One time setup fee: $250.00 (each firm, not each person)
Monthly charge for access: $150.00 (each firm)
