Revit Model Sharing ROI
I've had lots of comments on last month's ROI article. If you recall, this ROI was built around a single office, with four architects who needed to work with a partner firm on a Revit project. We showed that under our testing, the "cost" of the Riverbed solution for Revit model sharing was $1.02 per hour, while the return to the company was a whopping $21.64 per hour.

Happy New Year ! We're hearing some positive forecasts for 2011, something we've not heard for a few years. There have been several new product releases from Riverbed in the past few weeks. I thought I'd provide an overview of those products for you this month.

New Product Accouncement: Virtual Steelhead
Riverbed has announced a new "Virtual Steelhead" back in early Q4, 2010. The product is now ready to ship. The "Virtual" Steelhead is a software deliverable, that simply runs on your own hardware, running WMWare. The only difference between the Virtual Steelhead and Steelhead appliance is simply the hardware platform.
The Virtual Steelhead is available up to the 2050 series, and upgrades are available across product series. For example, a Virtual Steelhead 250 can be license upgraded all the way up to a 2050 series, if needed.
The Virtual Steelhead is ideal for overseas offices where customs may delay or prevent the deployment of a Steelhead appliance.

New Product Announcement: Riverbed Whitewater
Riverbed has announced a series of "cloud" solutions, including Riverbed Whitewater. Whitewater is a cloud storage accelerator that provides LAN-like access to cloud storage providers.
Whitewater appliances give companies the flexibility to work with multiple cloud vendors, providing a smooth transition should you decide to change. Traditionally, in the A/E/C industry, firms have hesitated in transferring their data outside their own LAN, however, Whitewater provides a double layer of encryption (SSLv3 in-flight to the cloud, and 256-bit AES encryption at rest) to create end-to-end security.
