Greetings!

Thanks to all who stopped by our booth at Autodesk University.  It was great to see some old friends, and make some new ones.

This month, we'll review Autodesk University and talk some "Cloud" (that's an AU joke that those who attended will certainly get).

Interest in our Revit Hosting Service continues to grow, and the success of this product has been great.  We are anticipating seeing more services released in the coming months to compete with our Hosting Service, as we saw at AU this year.  CSG's service continues to be the only one incorporating industry leading WAN accelerator technology from Riverbed to address latency and provide users with "near-LAN" speed, when directly accessing the Revit model(s), and supporting the BIM workflow.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Autodesk University Wrap Up- Got Cloud?

Autodesk University was held Nov 30-Dec 2 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas.  Attendence was up again this year, to over 8,000 participants.  There were events held in the vendor area on Tuesday and Wednesday nights to encourage particpants to engage with the vendors.  CSG's booth was packed both nights, as we were doing LIVE demonstrations, opening a Revit model over a VPN connection to a server approximately 2000 miles away !

The buzzword of the conference was "CLOUD", and in the vendor area, everyone set out to discover what "cloud" solutions there were out there.  Interestingly, CSG's Revit Model Hosting Service is a pure form of a project-based, private cloud.  Those who didn't know CSG and what we do were surprised to see we've been involved with this "new" technology for several years !

Many of those we talked to didn't have a clear definition of "cloud", but just knew they wanted it.  There are many definitions, but the one we like at CSG is to simply think of the "cloud" as a server not physically located in your office that you can connect to and access your data.  The "cloud", in support of the BIM workflow, must allow for live access to your models, not a "static" site for simply posting files.

CSG's "Friends Don't Let Friends Use FTP" t-shirts were a huge hit.  We had a lot of fun with those.  I suspect a lot of I.T managers were presented with a t-shirt when the conference attendees got back to their office.

We are already making plans for next year's conference !

Revit Model Hosting Service-New Name !!!

As most of you know, CSG introduced our Revit Model Hosting Service almost two years ago.  Being a bunch of CAD guys, we were most concerned with the quality of our service, not the name.  It's hard to believe that almost two full years have gone by since.  We had always intended to rename the service, but we could never figure out what to call it, since we named it exactly for what it was.  After Autodesk University this year, it has become clear to us that we should rename our Hosting Service to........

CSG BIM CLOUD

The service will remain the same, and we still believe it is the easiest, fastest, service available, geared to project teams of any size, and priced accordingly.  CSG's BIM Cloud utilizes Riverbed Technology to address latency, not some other technology that aims to work around latency.  With CSG's BIM Cloud, we take your existing LAN-based workflow, and extend it out to the WAN/VPN users, allowing each project team member to run your license of Revit (or other BIM application) on your workstation, and connect to a drive letter and project folder on the CSG BIM Cloud server.  The users won't necessary know that the drive letter is not on a local server, as the speed in connection, using Riverbed's WAN accelerator technology, will be near-LAN speed.

Riverbed Optimization Software (RiOS) Version 7 !!

RiOS version 7 has been announced by Riverbed.  We are anticipating the release prior to the end of December.  The new features include:

Native stream splitting for Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight
Optimization for UDP and IPv6

Optimization for encrypted Lotus Notes

Embedded Cascade Shark and Skipware

End-to-end Kerberos support for Microsoft applications

Auto-configuration for HTTP authentication

Improved CIFS and HTTP pre-population

What this all means is optimization for live video streaming delivered over HTTP, users datagram protocol (UDP), embedded Cascade Shark for on-demand packet capture and analysis, as well as Skipware for satellite optimization.  Finally, RiOS 7 features enhance virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and Quality of Service (QoS) for greater control over business critical applications.

RiOS version 7 is supported on all xx50 series devices.  Please note, RiOS 7 is NOT supported on the xx20 series appliances.

A/E/C and "the Cloud".

A/E/C firms looking for "private cloud" project-based solutions must also address end-user productivity and performance of the connection. BIM model sharing across the enterprise and "the cloud" will have the same speed issues as traditional CAD files. Learn how the implementation of Riverbed can provide an "all in one room" feel for the entire project team, regardless of where the physical server exists. Solutions available for multi-office firms, as well as single office working with Consultants, and single-user team members. A live demonstration is included, as well as an introduction to CSG's BIM Cloud service.
